What Does a Planner Do?
When I tell people I am an Event Planner, they ask me the funniest questions. Do you make the food? No, that is the caterer. Do you make the centerpieces and decorations? No, that is the florist and the decorator. I am the organizer. Some have even said they don’t need a planner because they are so organized they don’t need help. Sometimes, I wonder myself. What do I do exactly?
How do you explain a non-tangible item or service? How do you explain that you make magic without a wand? I am the planner, not to plan FOR you, but to plan WITH you. I am the event organizer, the logistics coordinator, the venue and vendor communicator, the one who actually reads the contracts word for word. The one who answers all of the serious questions so you can answer all of the fun questions. I am your guide, your confidant, your design collaborator, the person you can any question to, your support, your cheerleader. Sometimes your protector. Your vendor directory. The behind the scenes elf making sure everything is being taken care of. The one making the detailed timeline that takes all of the other vendors times into consideration. Working with the DJ and the photographer to make sure they don’t miss anything. The one who makes or helps make the floorplan. The one picking up all of the personal items for the event day. The one who prays gratitude over your event, so it will run smoothly and efficiently, and you will have the best day of your lives.
The one who makes sure the vendors know where to park, where to unload, where to set up, and where to go once everything is in place. The one who makes sure the tables are set before the guests arrive. The one checking in on the couple first thing in the morning. The one sending the wedding party down the aisle. The one making sure you are taken care of and having a good time. The one who is working the most hours before and on your event day. The one who is going 12-14 hours to make sure everything is taken care of, so you can truly be a guest at your own event…
